My Journey as a Homeschooling Mom to Twins
Homeschooling my twins has been a journey of discovery—not just for them, but for me as well. Every day, I watch them explore, wonder, and learn in ways that feel so natural and joyful. It’s a path filled with trial and error, laughter, and moments that make me pause and truly appreciate the beauty of childhood.
Why I Chose Homeschooling
When my twins were younger, I noticed how much they thrived when learning through play. Traditional learning methods felt too rigid, and I wanted to create an environment where their natural curiosity could flourish. Inspired by Montessori and Waldorf approaches, I began integrating hands-on experiences, nature-based learning, and storytelling into our daily routine.
Following My Twins’ Interests
One of the most rewarding aspects of homeschooling is seeing where my kids’ interests naturally lead. Instead of pushing structured lessons, I’ve learned to observe, follow their lead, and build learning experiences around what excites them.
Topics We’ve Explored So Far
🐄 Farm & Nature Studies
Our love for farm play started with Gubbachhi toys and Bhakur Organics’ cotton farm setup. What began as simple pretend play quickly turned into hands-on learning:
✅ Feeling real grains and hay for sensory play.
✅ Learning animal sounds and their roles on a farm.
✅ Visiting a real farm to see cows, goats, and chickens up close!
🐝 Bees & Pollination
Their curiosity about buzzing bees turned into a full-fledged learning experience:
✅ Creating a DIY bee home to understand how bees live.
✅ Tasting different types of honey to explore flavors and sources.
✅ Crafting a bee life cycle chart to make learning visual and interactive.

🏥 Community Helpers
When a doctor’s visit sparked their interest, we:
✅ Used a doctor playset to role-play patient checkups.
✅ Talked about why doctors, bakers, and firefighters help our community.
✅ Visited a real bakery to watch bread-making in action!

🎨 Festivals & Cultural Learning
Celebrations became a time for storytelling and creative expression:
✅ Diwali: Making lanterns from old glass bottles and paper mosaic diyas.
✅ Halloween: Baking themed cookies with Little Cheflings’ baking box.
✅ Holi: A sensory-rich playdate with flower petal showers and water play!
🌈 Sensory Play & Open-Ended Toys
Sustainability and natural play are key in our home, so we love:
✅ Birch and Bug rainbow stackers for creative storytelling.

Making Learning Fun
Some of our favorite ways to keep learning fun:
🌿 Outdoor Exploration: Nature walks, collecting leaves, watching insects.
👐 Hands-On Sensory Play: Water bins, kinetic sand, playdough.
📖 Storytelling & Pretend Play: Turning every lesson into a mini-adventure.
One day, we were learning about frogs, and instead of worksheets, we:
✅ Created a frog pond sensory bin with water and toy frogs.
✅ Hopped like frogs in a lily pad jumping game.
✅ Crafted a paper plate frog puppet—which later became part of a pretend-play show!

How I Adapt Montessori & Waldorf Methods
I love blending both philosophies to create a balanced, nurturing learning space:
✅ Montessori-Inspired:
- Practical life activities (pouring, cutting, self-care tasks).
- Real-world materials (wood, metal, fabric).
- Encouraging independence with open-ended toys and choices.
✅ Waldorf-Inspired:
- Seasonal and nature-based learning.
- Using stories, rhymes, and movement in lessons.
- Emphasizing play and creativity over early academics.
I also try to keep a rhythm in our day—morning sensory play, a creative or learning activity, outdoor time, and unstructured free play.
Challenges & Lessons Learned
🔹 Balancing structured learning & free play: I remind myself that play is their greatest teacher.
🔹 Managing different energy levels: Some days, they’re full of energy and want to run around instead of sit for crafts—I’ve learned to incorporate movement into learning!
🔹 Finding patience: Not every day is Pinterest-perfect, and that’s okay.
Through it all, I’ve learned to trust the process and that every small moment of learning—whether it's a frog craft or a conversation about bees—builds a strong foundation for curiosity and discovery.
What’s Next?
✨ Introduce new unit studies based on their evolving interests.
✨ Explore more nature-based learning with outdoor adventures.
✨ Keep journaling and sharing our experiences—because every day, I learn as much as they do!
